CrossFit makes my heart sing.  It is my passion.  I travel Europe and the world, every weekend to spread the message.  I work for CrossFit Headquarters teaching their L1 and L2 trainer courses as a lead instructor (Flowmaster).  It is the greatest job in the world.
 
At the age of 23 I left the Royal Marines, having served for seven years. I thought I was bulletproof and super fit…I was wrong!  While working as a trainer in a gym one day, a colleague told me about this thing called CrossFit.  He had just found it online and thought it was right up my street.  Roughly seventeen minutes later I found myself collapsed outside on a grass verge trying to figure out what the hell had just happened. That was it, I went home to find out more and later that day booked a flight to San Diego in order to learn from the horse’s mouth.  During that period I was initially exposed to the community.  Not since leaving the military sector a few years prior had I seen such camaraderie; yet these were strangers!  I was in a room full of people who were utterly selfless, cheerful regardless of the environment and all humble to a fault.  I was sold!
 
CrossFit is extremely powerful; it is life changing.  There is no other way to put it.  This facility and more importantly the people in it will make you better; the cool thing is…you get to decide at what. Write down five things that will make you a better person, I don’t need to know what they are.  Put them in an envelope and hide it.  After six months go and tear it open, I still don’t want to see it.  You are going to find me and tell me whether you coming here, your exposure to this place made you better… I already know the answer.
 
It is very difficult these days to perform a truly selfless good deed, a random act of kindness.  I see it everyday in CrossFit.


Brad Rivers

I work here full time during the week at Reebok CrossFit Cardiff, so if you drop in you're likely to bump into me first.  I can honestly say I love my job.  CrossFit for me is all about having fun, challenging yourself each day, embracing and trying new things and constantly striving to make yourself better whether that be in fitness or in other areas of your life.

As a competitive person, I've entered various CrossFit competitions big and small, and find it brings out the best in me.  It's always inspiring and humbling going up against other athletes.  

Ultimately though, CrossFit will teach you that in the end, you are only competing against yourself, trying to be better than you were yesterday.

I'm a very easygoing character, I love being outside, playing sports, hiking, swimming and especially surfing. 

My main focus in life is just to enjoy it, taking each day as it comes.


James Henderson

I'm a qualified accountant and  work in Venture Capital as a day job.  I first found CrossFit in 2009 initially training alone in my garage gym and learning from videos posted online!

I have played football all my life and continue to play whenever I get the chance and am a keen Liverpool Supporter.

When CrossFit Cardiff opened in 2010 I was member #1 and have been here since!  Its been the most rewarding journey of my life so far.

The thing that drew me to CrossFit was the competitive and quantitative aspects, the constant competition to beat your previous scores and the adrenaline that still flows just before I hear 3,2,1,....GO!


Nic Richardson

I've been into sport for as long as I can remember. I played rugby up to youth level and had my hopes on a spot in the Welsh squad but settled on playing for a rugby club in Wales.

Until CrossFit took over my most recent competitive sport was Thai Boxing, I aimed for the British title but settled on fighting for a club in Britain.

I've always trained in some capacity and have always loved being active and getting out and about whether it's running or mountain biking or hiking and camping in the great outdoors. The simple things are some of the best experiences in life.

CrossFit never gets boring for me, with an endless choice of combinations of movements and it beats being sat in a gym alone in a room full of people.

I currently own a supplement shop (GAINZ SPORTS NUTRITION) and so not only assist people in moving safely but help them on the road to correct nutrition and recovery.


Mel Jenkins

I found CrossFit three years ago through word of mouth, just as I was hitting my 40s!!!!  I was struggling with improving at triathlons so thought I would look for a strength-based program.

I found sooooo much more.  I made friends from the first time I entered the Box who I’m still very close to and continue to meet new people all the time.  I have entered several competitions which are so friendly and supportive, especially the Masters ones run for us oldies.

I work for a software company called Sapiens in Cardiff Bay and often travel for work, which has given me the opportunity to visit overseas CrossFit boxes which is a brilliant experience.

One of the best things about CrossFit and being part of the coaching team is helping people achieve things they never thought they could do.


Franco Morris

I have worked in the fitness industry for the last 8 years and 3 of the most recent years have been heavily focussed on CrossFit.  CrossFit has opened my eyes to what fitness & human movement should look like.  

I have learnt more in the last 3 years than I have ever done before and I am continuing to learn and develop my understanding daily.

I have been coaching at Reebok CrossFit Cardiff for the last 2 years and it is the best place to not only work but to be a part of a community that epitomises the true meaning of being a CrossFitter.

I'm lucky enough to be constantly introduced to new faces and I have developed friendships with many others, we are also lucky enough to have a great bunch of coaches and members who all make social events awesome!


Jon Hares

In June of 2009 I weighed 130kg and knew I needed to make a life altering change.  I’d had knee reconstructive surgery at the end of 2007 and quickly began piling the weight on.  Up until that point I had been fit and active, regularly playing sports like squash, football and strength training.  Doing a search on the internet for HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) I stumbled across crossfit.com and the workouts there looked impossible!  The thought of doing 10 pull ups, let alone 100 was impossible to comprehend.  Nevertheless I started training using CrossFit, massively scaling the workouts to my fitness level and to the equipment I had in my garage gym.  I also cleaned up my diet initially following the Zone diet and gradually converting to Paleo.

By the following June I weighed 93kg and was the fittest I had been in my adult life…up until that point!  CrossFit changes lives.  I am testament to that!

What I love about CrossFit is that ALL the workouts are scalable to the relative ability of each individual but the key to success lies in the intensity.
